Depending on the career level you start at and how quickly you develop within Bain, your career will be very individual. If you join as a manager, you will take on project responsibility right from the start and develop your management skills significantly before you become a senior manager after typically two years. As a senior manager, you help to shape customer relationships, support the acquisition of new customers and prepare yourself for your role as a partner.

Regardless of your level, we will support you throughout your career at Bain & Company with an individual, globally oriented training program. At the beginning of your career with us, you start with an introductory training course lasting several days, which prepares you for everyday consulting work at Bain & Company.

You can also expect a global training program. Global trainings take place in various locations around the world. Together with international colleagues from other Bain offices, you will learn from international trainers and share your experiences. In addition, you can choose from a variety of individual, local training courses on a wide range of relevant topics tailored to you and your needs.

At Bain, we attach great importance to your personal development. From day one, we adhere to a basic principles of mutual learning.

Formal and informal feedback and coaching
Along with intensive coaching and support from your team in everyday project work, you’ll regularly receive constructive formal feedback to support your development as best possible.

Colleague
In addition, you will have a personal “colleague” by your side right from the start. This consultant will help you to find your way around Bain in the best possible way and is always available to exchange ideas.

Mentor
In addition, experienced Bain colleagues will accompany you as mentors. They support you with the integration and advise you confidentially on any career-related questions.

International clients and projects
In a Manager role, you’ll experience first-hand how global thinking and action are put to practice at Bain. A large part of our projects involves assignments abroad, or working on international teams.

Based on your professional experience, you’ll be able to hit the ground running, bringing your expertise to our consulting work. Of course you’ll also be free to pursue your other passions, for instance by joining one of our practice groups (affectionately referred to as Ring-Fences) such as Advanced Analytics, ADAPT, or Private Equity. Or you can take the lead on a social-impact project.

Leave of absence
At Bain, you’ll be free to take unpaid leave whenever you need to. What you use that time for is entirely up to you.

Part-time models and internal roles
Family needs, personal projects, career considerations – no matter what your motive, part-time work models (such as 10+2 ) are always available at Bain and adaptable to your specific needs. Should you want a break from client projects, we’ll find a suitable internal role for you.

Pro-bono work
Another attractive option involves working on pro-bono projects for a period of time. You might choose to work for a local or global charity or green project, or perhaps go on an extended transfer.

Application process

You can apply to Bain & Company at any time. Please send us your application about six months before you plan to start using our Online tool . In addition to your meaningful CV, you can also attach all relevant diplomas and job references here. A cover letter is optional. We will confirm receipt of your application immediately.

Your office preferences will be reviewed in the order of your priorities. If your office preferences are Germany or Switzerland, you will usually receive our response within two weeks of completing the online assessment. Should you also have selected international offices among your preferences, your application will be forwarded to those offices. In that case you’ll receive feedback from the office indicated most recently, so the response may be delayed somewhat. Please note that the selection criteria and cycles may differ in other countries. Should you have any further questions regarding the application process, please contact the respective Bain office.

When you start as an experienced hire, we make individual decisions about your recruiting process. In any case, you will have a series of face-to-face interviews with consultants at partner and senior manager level. You and we have the chance to assess whether a career change to Bain is the right step. We will also evaluate your short- to medium-term potential for a partner promotion in this context.

After the first personal introductory meeting with a Bain partner from the appropriate industry or functional area and a brief presentation of our project work, our values and our culture, we typically set up up to five individual meetings for you.
